The short answer: one lost crew-day costs a crew of three with a machine €1,100 to €1,800 [1][4]. A company with 20 workers loses €25,000 to €75,000 a year to that, depending on how often it goes wrong [13]. Below you work it out with your own figures.
How we calculate
Crew size × 8 hours × internal hourly cost. The Belgian construction wage scale (PC 124) has been €18.59 to €22.37 gross per hour since April 2025 [2]; total employer cost is about 1.68 times gross pay [3], which with lost productivity and travel comes to €40 to €55 per hour. Three people at €47 is €1,128 per day. Add the day hire of the equipment that stood with them: a mobile crane from €144 per day, a mini crane €315, aerial platforms €61 to €145 [4][5][6]; with an operator €50 to €150 per hour [8].
A crew left at the gate over an expired SCC/VCA card, a client safety training or a nuclear clearance costs at least one crew-day plus recovery and rescheduling. Elia only admits registered and trained contractors [16][17]; nuclear sites require a security certificate applied for 15 days in advance, so an error there cannot be fixed the same day [19]. The cost research puts it at €2,000 to €5,000 per incident; we use €3,000. A roadside check without a valid Code 95 is a €1,740 on-the-spot fine [11]; driving without the right C/CE category is a €1,600 to €16,000 fine plus a possible driving ban (Belgian Road Traffic Act, art. 30) [9][10].
